As of December 11, 2024, the automatic synchronization of routes from Strava to Livelox is discontinued for all users.
This page contains background information about the discontinuation, and the action required from you as a Strava-connected user to have your routes transferred to Livelox.
Strava offers a free API that allows third-party applications, with the user's consent, to access user data in Strava. Livelox and numerous other online applications, softwares and platforms have been using this API for years.
In late 2023, Strava required all third-party applications using the API to comply with their updated Developer Program terms. These terms ensure applications align with Strava's policies and are not in competition with Strava. After submitting the required documentation, Livelox was granted continued status within Strava's Developer Program.
However, on November 11, 2024, Strava released an updated API agreement, significantly restricting the use of data imported from Strava's API to third-party applications. Among the various new sections, the updated agreement states:
"Strava Data provided by a specific user can only be displayed or disclosed in your Developer Application to that user. Strava Data related to other users, even if such data is publicly viewable on the Strava Platform, may not be displayed or disclosed."
As a consequence, Livelox has decided to discontinue the option to synchronize routes from Strava. After all, Livelox is all about viewing other participants' routes and comparing them with your own. This is no longer allowed for Strava routes, and therefore it makes no sense to keep Strava as a route source. This is a painful change for us, as the Strava synchronization has served our users really well for many years.
Yes, you can! Most Strava routes originate from another route source, often from the cloud service of a sports watch brand. Livelox integrates directly with Garmin, Suunto, Coros, and Polar. You can connect your watch to Livelox and automatically synchronize your routes just like before.
Connect your watch now to ensure that you don't miss out on any data – it's quick and easy, taking just two minutes!
Don't worry, importing routes from Strava and other route providers is still possible by manually uploading a GPX, TCX or FIT file to Livelox. These file formats are widely supported by training and fitness applications.
Why is this happening now?
Within 30 days of the publication of the updated Strava API Agreement, applications like Livelox must comply with the updated terms or opt out.
What happens if I don't connect to Garmin, Suunto, Coros or Polar?
Any Strava routes recorded after December 11, 2024, will no longer be synchronized to Livelox, and therefore not be visible in any Livelox events.
Can Livelox get an exception from Strava?
In recent years, Strava's terms and conditions have unfortuantely become increasingly restrictive. Even if an exception were granted now, future policy changes could cause the same issue to arise again. As a result, we've decided to discontinue Strava's service.
